CULTIVATIONS OF CONTROLLED ORIGIN

Italy boasts more than 10,000 hectares of apricot orchards and a national production capacity of 211,700 tons per annum. Basilicata, and especially the Metaponto Coastal Plain, represents the ideal geographic area for organic production and Baby Food, because of its favorable geo-climatic conditions, which allow growers to get excellent fruits without the use of chemical treatments.


Its origins are antique, it has more than 4,000 years of history. The Romans brought it into Italy in 70-60 B.C., but its diffusion in the Mediterranean basin was consolidated later on by the Arabs: the Italian word for apricot tree, “Albicocco”, comes from the Arabian word Al-barquq.
